Butaritari is an atoll in the island country of Kiribati in the Pacific Ocean. The atoll has about four sides. The south and southeast portions of the atoll are composed of islets that are practically continuous. Along the north side of the atoll, the reef is continuous but nearly entirely devoid of islands.

One of Kiribati's Phoenix Islands is the Orona atoll, often referred to as Hull Island. While traveling from South America to Calcutta, India, James Henderson, the commercial captain of the East India Company ship Hercules, made a sighting of the island. The Calcutta Journal, a local newspaper, published Henderson's account of three islands he had observed on his journey not long after he had arrived.

Six atolls and three reef islands make up Tuvalu Davis, nine individual islands. Tuvalu Davis has a total of 124 islands and islets, but one atoll is normally comprised of numerous islets. A coral reef surrounds each island.
